From SaaS Reviews to Reddit Rankings

After watching organic traffic shrink post-algorithm updates, it just makes you wonder where those clicks were going. And a lot of them go straight to Reddit.

Amy shared that they would usually write a polished blog post on their side before crafting a Reddit post around the same topic, but in a way that fit the Reddit community:

  • shorter
  • conversational
  • community-first

Then they would notice that they would rank on Google the next day.

It wasn’t just showing up in traditional search results.

“All roads do sort of lead to Reddit,” she said about how it was also showing up in Bing, in ChatGPT, in Google AI overviews,  and other platforms.

#1 Reddit Rule: Be Genuinely Helpful

Reddit users can smell spam from across the internet. It’s not a place to push your links.

If you roll in with “10 Best Toaster Ovens – Click Here!” you’re gonna get downvoted (or worse, banned).

So all you need to do, as Amy suggested, is to “Be helpful.”

That’s the type of content that wins on Reddit.

So don’t say, “Here’s my list.” You should say, “Hey, I’ve been testing these three toasters… curious if anyone else has recommendations?”

Same core idea. Completely different reception.

Niche Down with Topical Subreddits

Amy calls them “affinity subreddits.” Think hyper-niche, like:

These aren’t massive communities, and that’s the point. Because they’re so specific, your content has a higher chance of ranking and getting noticed.

Even a single post can get visibility in Google’s SERPs.

How to Get Engagement on Reddit

Comments and engagement are what push your content up.

The more replies, upvotes, and back-and-forth a post gets, the more visibility it gets, not just on Reddit, but even in Google results.

So how do you get engagement?

  • Asking for input – “Which tools do you use for X?”
  • Teasers with a link back – “Here’s what I found, full results here…”
  • Strong opinions – “Here’s why I don’t recommend this tool.”
  • Balance – “Some people love this. Some hate it. Here’s both sides.”

Show up like a real human.

Don’t try to be everywhere. Start with a few posts, learn what works, and then build from there.

And when someone comments on your post, Amy shared that you can also send them a personal message via modmail and invite them to join your subreddit.

You can also ask if they’d like to become mods, contribute, or help shape the community.

Cross-Posting: Do It (But Do It Right)

Cross-posting is Reddit’s way of syndicating content across communities. You can post something once, then share it in multiple relevant subreddits as long as the post fits.

Just make sure you’re following each sub’s rules. And remember that your Reddit post history is public. If it’s all self-promo, people will see right through it.

Finding the Right Keywords (Reddit Style)

If you’re used to SEO, this part will feel familiar.

Amy’s team uses Ahrefs to figure out what Reddit threads are already ranking, then builds around that.

Here’s how to go about it:

  1. Look up your main keyword + Reddit
  2. Look at what threads are ranking… what questions are being asked?
  3. Notice repeat phrases like:
    1. “Is [Brand X] legit?”
    2. “Is it worth it?”
    3. “[Product A] vs [Product B]”
  4. Then reverse-engineer your Reddit post around those.

It’s a mix of keyword research and community intuition.

Strategy First: What’s the Goal?

Before you post, figure out your angle. Amy broke Reddit strategy into 3 buckets:

  1. Traffic – brings people back to your site
  2. Awareness – introduces your brand or content
  3. Reputation – manage how people talk about you online

Once you know what you’re aiming for, the content becomes easier to craft.

Example: If people are asking “Is [Your Tool] legit?” — that’s a reputation play. Don’t jump into a negative thread. Create a new one with balanced info and real-world proof.

Other Content Platforms Are Still in the Mix

Reddit may be hot right now, but it’s not the only place Amy’s team is posting.

They still use Medium and Quora but with platform-specific spins. Same topic, different style:

  • Reddit – casual, opinionated, engagement-driven
  • Quora – answer-first, value-heavy
  • Medium – editorial, polished, story-first

And you can take up multiple spots on Google’s first page if you do it right.

Is Amy’s Team Using AI in Creating Reddit Posts?

No, not really.

They’ve got a no-AI policy for their editorial. Why? Because Reddit users can tell. Anything that sounds robotic, overly polished, or lifeless can be detected by the community.

They want content that feels real even if it’s a little messy.

That said, Amy still can see how AI might help brainstorm angles or repurpose ideas across platforms. But the final voice still needs to be human.

What’s Next for Amy?

We’re living in a new era.

AI is taking over search results. Traditional SEO playbooks are getting thrown out. Platforms change daily.

But if you’re still here, still creating, still experimenting? You’re ahead.

And Amy’s team is doing that. That’s also what we’re doing at Side Hustle Nation.

We’re not just publishing blog posts anymore. We’re publishing on Reddit, on Quora, on YouTube, on podcasts, and figuring out what sticks.

That’s very exciting because if you can figure out how to show up across platforms in a real, human, helpful way, you’re not just surviving. You’re building a moat.

Play the Long Game

Reddit isn’t a shortcut nor a growth hack.

It’s a community. And if you treat it like one, if you show up with curiosity, lead with value, and take the time to build, it can become a powerful new touchpoint for your business.

We’re still early in the journey over at r/sidehustlenation. But if this whole Reddit-as-SEO-weapon thing has piqued your interest, come join us!
